Gamo Varmint Hunter Review ( Air Rifle)
The Gamo Varmint Hunter in caliber .177 is an old classic from Gamo that has been on sale for quite some time. They did a lot right with it, and now with some recent improvements, it is even better.
Starting with the unique shape of the stock, that is very well designed and lends itself to teaching proper rifle handling techniques. It is light, ergonomic and lends itself to both right and left-handed shooting. The Varmint Hunter does not ship with regular sights, so you have to use a scope. Gamo bundles a decent and light 4×32 scope as well as a laser sight. The laser light gives you the ability to hunt for varmint both during day and night.
The barrel joint on this new Gamo Varmint is improved and that should improve the life-span on the product.
The trigger is Gamo’s standard trigger of plastic. The updated version features the new SAT trigger that is now standard
Let’s talk about performance. As I mentioned before, the rifle power plant is a step up from Gamo’s standard. In micrometer test it seems to run exceptionally well with the Crosman pointed hunting pellet at 14.3 grain. At an average of 810 FPS the impact energy is way more than 20 foot pounds, which should take out the most pesky varmints.

Indoors the Gamo Varmint registers more than 106db which is quite loud. If you have sensitive neighbours, you might want to keep this in mind.
The accuracy impresses me a lot with its consistency. This is a stock gun and right out of the box it shoots 0.3 inch groups at 10 yards. That is not match grade accuracy, but of course this is a hunting rifle. Use the included laser for even tighter groups
The laser and the scope are affected by the recoil of the gun so it is highly recommended to tighten the screws of those on a regular basis. This air rifle is definitely the best choice for hunters.
Gamo have done a good job with this product. They have improved the weak points and the end result is something very impressive indeed. Especially at its very low price point. This is a way to keep your property pest-free at a very decent price indeed.
